BACK HOME! Corps uncases, marks return from Afghanistan
FORT HOOD, Texas -- III Corps and Fort Hood Commanding General Lt. Gen. Mark Milley and Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Schroeder uncased III Corps’ colors Wednesday during a ceremony at III Corps Headquarters, officially marking the conclusion of the corps’ 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.
This was the first deployment to Afghanistan for III Corps. While there, the nearly 600 corps Soldiers joined other NATO forces to lead the International Joint Command, the corps-level headquarters element that controlled the ground war. -

III Corps completes mission in Afghanistan
Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, the outgoing commander of ISAF Joint Command in Kabul, Afghanistan, and commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas, transfered authority Feb. 8 to Lt. Gen. Joseph Anderson, incoming commander of ISAF Joint Command and commanding general of XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. Following the ceremony Milley returned to Fort Hood, Texas, arriving on Feb. 9. The III Corps commanding general will uncase the III Corps colors in a ceremony at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at the III Corps headquarters, Fort Hood, Texas.
