  • 15th MI Soldiers help time running events

Soldiers of the 15th Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation) supported their adopted school, Lampasas Middle School, by volunteering at the district track meet in Lampasas, TX on April 8th.  Twenty Soldiers came out to the high school track and field complex to assist coaches with setting up events, measuring distances, and recording scores.  Lampasas ISD, part of the Texas AAA District 25, which is comprised of six other schools, hosted over 100 student athletes at this meet.  For the 15th MI Soldiers, it was a great opportunity (and great weather) to help the community and socialize with some of the middle school students outside of a classroom environment.  Normally, the battalion conducts school visits on a monthly basis where Soldiers mentor and tutor students.  Helping at the track meet allowed this event to run smoothly and at a good pace, according to Jim Burks, the Lampasas Middle School Athletics Coordinator.  "Many of the district coaches came to me [after the meet] and complimented the Soldiers' appearance, work, and encouragement for all the kids," he said.  Liberty Hill was the overall meet champion, with Lampasas coming in fifth place.  The next school visit for 15th MI will be the first week in May.

  • The 15th Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Exploitation) will commemorate the unit's redeployment on 3 February 2012 with a colors uncasing ceremony at their West Fort Hood hangar.  15th MI Bn, whose aerial intelligence assets consist of both RC-12 airplanes and MQ-5B Hunter Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), conducted their final mission in support of Operation New Daw on 19 December 2011.  The battalion has been deployed continuously to Iraq since 2007, with individual deployers and equipment rotating back and forth.  The uncasing ceremony marks the first time in over five years that the entire unit will be back at Fort Hood, TX.  The event will be followed by a dining-out in the evening.
