    Operation Rising Star crowns top winners

    The crowd cheered and music played as each performer took to the stage and gave their all for a chance at the title of best Army singer and a big prize.

    Six Soldiers competed for the opportunity to be the top singer on the installation during the Operation Rising Star 2015 singing contest, at the Phantom Warrior Center on Fort Hood, Friday.

    “Operation Rising Star is a competition that allows Soldiers and active duty Family members to publicly showcase their talents that otherwise would not be made known to other service members,” said Norma Hernandez, the special events coordinator.

    Post to observe National Night Out Tuesday at Hood Stadium

    Fort Hood Family Housing in partnership with the Directorate of Emergency Services has announced its participation with the National Association of Town Watch in the 32nd annual National Night Out program. 

    According to National Association of Town Watch, last year’s event was the largest ever that involved more than 37 million people in 16,124 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

    Soldier takes second at Operation Rising Star

    An Air Cavalry trooper placed second in Fort Hood’s garrison-level Operation Rising Star singing competition Saturday at the Backbone NCO Lounge. 

    Spc. Aurielle Polynice, an unmanned aircraft systems operator with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, took runner-up, and said she’s been singing since she was in the first grade when she joined her school choir.

    Fort Hood hosts archaeology open house, fair

    Celebrate the state’s heritage throughout October during Texas Archeology Month. The Fort Hood Cultural Resource Management Office is hosting a free archaeology open house through Oct. 31 and an archaeology fair on Oct. 8 at Texas A&M University Central Texas. 

    The open house features artifacts that date back to 10,000 years ago and interpretive displays about the discipline of archaeology itself.

    III Corps assumes Operation Inherent Resolve mission

    SOUTHWEST ASIA - Adding to its storied history and legacy, III Corps unfurled its colors once again in the Middle East and assumed responsibility of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve during a transfer of authority ceremony held at the CJTF-OIR headquarters Saturday.
