FORT HOOD, Texas -- The 3rd Cavalry Regiment "Brave Rifles" will soon celebrate a new school partnership.

Key leaders from the 4th Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, will officially adopt Salado High School during a ribbon cutting ceremony slated for 1 p.m. April 3 at Salado High School.

Burt Smith, Salado High School principal, and Lt. Col. David C. Foley, 4/3 CR commander, will cut the ribbon to signify the start of the new partnership.

The Adopt-A-School Program started in the mid-1990s. The program aligns local schools to different Fort Hood units.

Soldiers from each unit support students in their adopted school through mentorship, tutoring and leadership skills.

This is the first of four schools scheduled to be adopted in Salado by the 3rd Cavalry Regiment.
