Death of a Fort Hood Soldier

Sgt. 1st Class Brian John Peckham

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found unresponsive at his on-post residence Oct. 17. He was pronounced deceased by doctors at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at 3:42 a.m. Oct. 17.

Sgt. 1st Class Brian John Peckham, 38, whose home of record is listed as West Kingston, R.I., entered the military in January 1995 as a combat engineer. He arrived at Fort Hood in September 2011 and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 8th Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, on Fort Hood, since October 2012.

Peckham deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from January to July 2002. He also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2003 to February 2004 and from March 2007 to May 2008.

Peckham's awards and decorations includes two Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, six Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, five Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, three Iraq Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Action Badge, Pathfinder Badge,  Air Assault Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.
