Fort Hood hosts farewell, welcome ceremony for British III Corps deputy

FORT HOOD, Texas -- III Corps and Fort Hood will host a farewell and welcome ceremony at 9 a.m. July 30 for the deputy commanding general for support at the III Corps Headquarters flagpole here.

British army Brigadier Timothy Lai will depart for his next assignment as the deputy for Strategy, Plans, and Policy (J5) at U.S. Central Command, McDill Air Force Base, Florida. British army Maj. Gen. Douglas Chalmers will assume duties as the new DCG for support.

Lai was the first British officer to hold the DCG for support position as part of the U.S. military's partnerships with its allies. A similar partnership with the Canadian military lasted about 15 years and ended in April 2013.

Chalmers joins III Corps from the office of the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff where he served as the Chief of Defence Staff's Liaison Officer.

Media who wish to cover the ceremony must register here. On July 30, media should meet public affairs representatives in the Southside parking lot of the Fort Hood visitor's center at 8:15 a.m.
