Death of a Fort Hood Soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died from injuries suffered from a military vehicle accident Oct. 18 here.

Staff Sgt. Leroy Jackson, 46, whose home of record is listed as New Orleans, entered the military in May 1998 as an infantryman. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since November 2005.

Jackson deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2002 to February 2003. Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2005 to September 2005, October 2006 to January 2008, February 2009 to February 2010 and in support of Operation New Dawn from July 2011 to December 2011.

Jackson's awards and decorations include three Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.
