1st Medical Brigade to change command

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The 1st Medical Brigade will change commanders at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 on III Corps' Sadowski Field.

The brigade recently returned home, Nov. 6, 2012, from a nine-month Afghanistan deployment. This deployment marked the brigade’s fourth in the current conflict, after serving three tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As the nation’s oldest colors bearing medical unit, the 1st Med. Bde. can trace its history of providing medical care to troops back to World War I.

Col. Bruce McVeigh, brigade commander, will relinquish command to Col. Bertram Providence during the ceremony. Bertram comes to Fort Hood from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., where he served as the command surgeon for 3rd Army/United States Army Central.

Media wishing to cover the change of command ceremony should register here. Media should meet at the Fort Hood visitor's center south-side parking lot by 9:15 a.m.
