Accessing Fort Hood

If you have a current military ID card (retiree, active duty, National Guard, Reserve, military dependent or DoD Civilian), please avoid the main gate May 21, so we can facilitate guests without IDs at the visitors center.

If you do not have a current military ID card, you will need to enter Fort Hood through the Bernie Beck Gate. Take the Fort Hood Main Gate exit off U.S. Hwy. 190 on the west side of Killeen. Temporary passes are available at the Marvin Leath Visitors Center. The center is open 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, and you are welcome to stop by now to get your access pass early, so you, too, can enter through any gate May 21. If you wait until May 21 to check into the visitors center, some of Fort Hood’s finest noncommissioned officers will be on hand to provide assistance.

Avoid Traffic Delays, Get Your Pass Early

Vietnam veterans may obtain Visitor Passes from the Visitor Welcome Center up to two weeks prior to the event. Veterans attending can pick their pass up early or come in and pre-register to pick up a pass on the day of the event. The VWC is open 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.

Event passes will be valid for the entire week from May 21-24.

Requirements for Temporary Entry Pass

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current vehicle registration
  • Proof of current insurance
  • License plate number

Note: If there are any additional drivers to be listed on the temporary pass, they must provide their Social Security number, driver’s license number and state of license origin. Passengers will also need to show ID at the gate.

Arriving by Motorcycle

Those arriving on motorcycle, including passengers, will be required to wear a Department of Transportation Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218 or Snell Standard M2005 approved motorcycle helmet fastened under the chin. If you do not have or want to wear a helmet, parking will be available for your bike at the visitors center, and we have a shuttle that will take you to the ceremony.

Arriving by RV

RV gate clearance is a security requirement for all RV/trailers entering post. To access the installation with an RV, you must first stop by the Visitors Center at the main gate to receive a temporary pass. Then, you need to get back on U.S. Hwy. 190 going west. Exit at Clarke Road. Proceed to the security check point where your RV will be x-rayed.

Parking

Once you arrive on post, please drive to the III Corps Headquarters. There will be convenient designated parking for our veterans and their families.
