FORT HOOD, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center school-based health program is being offered in three Killeen area schools for the 2018-2019 school year.

Medical appointments are available at Ellison High School on Mondays, Audie Murphy Middle School on Tuesdays, and at Killeen High School on Wednesdays. Clinic operating hours at all schools are 8-11:30 a.m. Services such as labs, physicals, acute care, immunizations, nutrition weight counseling, behavior health screenings and counseling, comprehensive well-woman services and specialty care referrals will be available to students in grades 6 through 12 who are TRICARE Prime beneficiaries. A signed, consent form from the parent must be on file to be seen. Consent forms are available from Killeen Independent School District school nurses.

“This program benefits both the student and the parent because the student will only miss about 30 minutes of school versus a half day at a doctor’s office. The parent also doesn’t have to miss work, which helps Army readiness if the parent is a Soldier.” Maj. Daniel Chiles, an adolescent medical physician and provider at the schools. “It’s really a great program because you can’t get more patient-centered care than going to the patient.”

Last school year, 385 students were seen at the school clinics.
