FORT HOOD, Texas — Fort Hood officials have been working for several months with the Elizabeth Laird Family on the dedication of the room where she gave each Soldier a hug and encouraging words prior to and following their deployments.

Fort Hood leadership will honor Laird who is also referred to as the “Hug Lady” for her unwavering commitment to our Soldiers with a plaque dedication ceremony at 10:30 a.m. July 1 in the SSgt. George Larkin Terminal on Robert Gray Army Airfield here.

It is estimated that Laird gave out more than 500,000 hugs from 2003 to 2015.
