The Fort Hood Cultural Resources Management Office is celebrating Texas Archaeology Month with an open house throughout October and a family-friendly archaeology fair on Oct. 12 at Texas A&M University Central Texas.

Texas Archaeology Month provides a great opportunity to introduce the Central Texas community, Soldiers and their Families to the history and prehistory of the region with activities that let them dig into the past.

Archaeologists have found artifacts and sites ranging from prehistoric mammoth bones to toys from the late 1800s to Native American sacred sites and rock shelters. Because half of the artifacts and sites are attributed to the Native American culture, the cultural resources team has built stakeholder relationships with seven tribes in Central Texas.
