Death of a Fort Hood Soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who was found dead in his apartment Nov. 19 in Copperas Cove, Texas.

Staff Sergeant Kemper Carroll Jones, 39, of Tampa, Fla., joined the military in January 1992 as a M1 Armor Crewman. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since March 2009.

Jones's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, eight Army Achievement Medals, five Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Recruiters Badge Silver and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
