Fort Hood officials will host a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for new training center

FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood officials will host a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new $24M Training Support Center 10 a.m. Jan. 10 here.

The new center will be dedicated in honor of 1st Cavalry Division, Medal of Honor recipient, Master Sgt. Mike Castaneda Pena who was killed in action Sept. 5, 1950 at Waegwan, South Korea.

The new 160,975-square-foot facility will support soldiers training requirements by providing training aids, devices and simulators. It also allows for consolidation of many of our former training support facilities, resulting in a greater than 50-percent reduction of buildings spread across the installation.

In addition, the  facility also serves to enhance military-civilian community relations such as Boy's and Girl's Scouts, local community organization visits, spouse camaraderie events and others.

Media wishing to cover this event should register here no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 9. On Jan. 10, media should meet public affairs at the Southside parking lot of the visitors' center at 9 a.m.
