Death of a Fort Hood Soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died July 4 of possible natural causes in El Salvador.

Capt. Lakito Tarraze Bynum, 36, whose home of record is listed as Oakland, Mississippi, entered active-duty service in April 1996 as an ammunition specialist and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in May 2009 and served as a civil affairs team leader. He was assigned to 81st Civil Affairs Battalion, 85th Civil Affairs Brigade, Fort Hood, since September 2014.

Bynum deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2004 to November 2005 and from September to October 2010. He also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2011 to June 2012 and in support of the Civil Affairs Engagement Program from February to July 2015.

Bynum's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
