Death of a Fort Hood Soldier

FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Nov. 2 from injuries suffered from an apparent gunshot wound at his off-post residence in Killeen, Texas.
Spc. Gage Matthew-Gilbert Schellin, 22, whose home of record is listed as Fort Walton Beach, Florida, entered active duty service in May 2012 as a field artillery firefinder radar operator. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since Aug. 2014.
Schellin deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2013 to March 2014.
Schellin's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Army Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation.
