1st Cavalry Division to case colors

FORT HOOD, Texas – The 1st Cavalry Division will case its colors during a ceremony Wed., June 18 at 11:30 a.m. on Cooper Field here.

Brig. Gen. Michael Bills and Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew Barteky will case the unit colors during the ceremony.

The casing of the colors is an Army tradition that symbolizes the movement of a unit to a new theater of operation.

Roughly 300 Soldiers out of the nearly 1000 Soldiers assigned to the division headquarters will deploy this summer to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The “First Team” troopers will serve as the Regional Command - South headquarters with a mission focused on advising and training the Afghan National Security Forces.

Media interested in attending the ceremony should contact the 1st Cavalry Division Public Affairs Office no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday June 17.
