III Corps commander nominated for command of U.S. Army Europe
FORT HOOD, Texas -- Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta announced June 28 that the President has nominated Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr., for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Campbell is currently serving as commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas.
"When the time comes to leave, Ann and I will be saddened to end our time here in Central Texas and command of III Corps and Fort Hood," Campbell said. "The Army has asked me to command in Europe, and if confirmed by Congress, I will go with open arms and continue to serve to the best of my ability."
To become final, this appointment requires congressional approval. The date for the confirmation is unknown at this time and no potential replacement for Campbell as III Corps commander has been announced.
